Zona Engle Obituary
Mifflinburg, Pennsylvania - Zona Gail Engle, 92, formerly of Mifflinburg, passed away peacefully at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 30, 2026, at Brookdale Grayson View Senior Living, Selinsgrove.
She was born July 1, 1933, in New Columbia, the eldest daughter of the late Earland Dale and Elizabeth Grace (Jows) Showers. Zona was a 1951 graduate of Milton High School. On March 26, 1955, in Washington, D.C., she married Jacob F. Engle, who preceded her in death on Oct. 9, 2023.
For 16 years, Zona was an "Air Force" wife as her husband's assignments took their family to locations including Japan, New Mexico, and Alaska, before retiring to Mifflinburg.
While in New Mexico, she worked as an Administrative Assistant in the Officer's Club on Sandia Base. She participated in her children's activities and enjoyed camping with her family and friends in the mountains of New Mexico. Visiting Southwest sites, including the Grand Canyon, Carlsbad Caverns, Petrified Forest, and Bandelier National Monument provided memorable times for Zona and her family.
She continued her outdoor activities with her family while living in Anchorage, Alaska. They watched the salmon swim in Ship Creek through Anchorage and the sled dogs run in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, saw huge vegetables in the Matanuska Valley, visited Whittier and the Portage Glacier, and were awed by walrus and massive halibut in Seward Bay.
After Jacob retired from the Air Force, they built a home outside Mifflinburg where Zona lived for 54 years. She worked as a payroll manager at Ritz-Craft Corporation. She enjoyed camping with her husband and other family in Pennsylvania and at Assateague Island. She enjoyed the mixed bowling league in Mifflinburg and attending NASCAR races with her family and friends.
Surviving are two sons, Michael Engle, of New Columbia, and Jeffrey Engle, of Mifflinburg; two daughters, Melissa Engle, of Palmyra, and Valerie Engle, of New Berlin; three grandchildren, Laura and her husband Brock Solomon, of Mifflinburg, Andrew Kline, of New Berlin, and Hannah Wilson, of Coudersport; two great-grandchildren, Evan and Greenley Solomon; two sisters, Lois Ripka, of Turbotville, and April Clemens, of New Columbia; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Jacob, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Bette Boyer and Linda Beckman.
A private memorial service and interment will be held, at a later date, in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Pa.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the donor's charity of choice in Zona's name.
