William J. Klein Obituary

William J. Klein, 93, of 317 Liberty Valley Road, Danville, died at 5:15 p.m. Friday, July 10, 2020, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.


Born in Valley Township on April 7, 1927, he was a son of the late William G. and Mary (Mainzer) Klein. He was a lifelong resident of Valley Township and a 1944 graduate of Danville High School.


William was employed at the former TRW plant in Danville for 30 years, retiring as the assistant personnel manager. He had many business interests, including owning the Hilltop Inn for 15 years; owning Klein's Quality Meats for 50 years; being a dairy farmer for 15 years; and being a bus contractor for the Danville School District for 60 years. He also served as a Valley Township Supervisor for six years.


He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Danville and the Knights of Columbus. A longtime member of the Danville Moose Lodge, he was a Past Governor and Past President of District 4. He also belonged to the Danville Elks Lodge, Union County Sportsman's Club, and was a charter member of the Deep Hollow Hunting Camp. He was a member of the Continental Fire Company, Mooresburg Fire Company, Friendship Fire Company and the Glen Iron Fire Company.


William was preceded in death by his wife, the former Elda (Scarafini) Haas, on April 22, 2018; by two daughters, Carol Klein in 1964 and Donna (Klein) Shellman in in 2004; by a brother, Carl Klein; and by two sisters, Dorothy Starr and Florence Styer.


Surviving are five children, June Deaton, Jacksonville, Fla., Linda, wife of Barry Bordner, Sunbury, Glen Klein, and his wife Donna, Northumberland, James Klein, and his wife Diane, Danville, Michael Klein, and his wife Lori, Lebanon; seven grandchildren, Tim Roth, Tricia Larson, Carol Chance, Matthew Klein, Logan Klein, Zachary Klein, Nicholas Klein; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marie James and Bernice, wife of Jack Gross, all of Danville; a sister-in-law, Neva Klein, Danville; and a number of nieces and nephews.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the convenience of the family at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 66 Center St., Danville, with his pastor, Rev. Timothy D. Marcoe.


Interment will follow in St. Hubert's Catholic Cemetery.


Friends and neighbors are invited to join the family for a Celebration of Life service to be held Friday July 17, starting at 1 p. m. at the Hilltop Bar & Grill.


The family will provide flowers. Memorials may be sent to a charity of the donor's choice.


Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Roat-Kriner Funeral Home, 1133 Bloom Road, Danville.
