William S. Johns Jr., 72, 530 Hepburn St., Milton, died at his home on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at 8:48 p.m.
He was born May 4, 1947, in Lancaster, a son of the late William S. Sr. and Dolly (Harmess) Johns. William was a resident of Milton for 25 years.
William was a graduate of the Augusta Military Academy in Virginia.
He was last employed by the All American Truck Stop, Milton, for 15 years, retiring in 2009. Earlier he was an over-the-road truck driver.
An avid Phillies and Dale Earnhart Sr. fan, he collected coins, stamps, and baseball cards. He enjoyed portraying Santa Claus with his wife at various locations and activities in the Danville area.
He is survived by his wife, the former Darlene M. Diehn with whom he celebrated a 22nd wedding anniversary on Oct. 26, 2018; daughter, Debra Lynn Zimmerman of Ephrata; one son, David Keen, and his wife Bonnie Bolton of Lancaster; daughter, Della, wife of Ted Troup of Conestoga; son, William S. Johns III, and wife Mary Ellen Hackman of Orwigsburg; son, Joseph Johns of Conestoga; daughter, Mary of California; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Darla and Ben Witmer of Pequea; and an aunt, Helen Logan of Lancaster.
William was preceded in death by one daughter, Mellissa K. Johns.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
The family will provide flowers. Memorials may be sent to the S.P.C.A., 1467 Bloom Road, Danville, PA 17821.
