William Campbell Obituary

William "Bill" Wolfe Campbell, 99, of Shamokin Dam, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Sunbury on July 19, 1924, to the late Leslie I. and Anna (Wolfe) Campbell. He graduated from Sunbury High School in 1940.

On Nov. 2, 1955, in Bristol, R.I., he married Bernice Phelan, who preceded him in death.

Early in his life, Bill worked on the family farm in Upper Augusta Township with his father and brothers. He was employed for one year at Merck in Danville before opening his television store, Penn T.V. Sales and Service, in Sunbury. He owned and operated the store for more than 40 years. Bill was known for the good service he gave to his customers, and he won many trips over the years for having outstanding television sales.

Bill was very generous to his family and friends. He enjoyed hunting with his brothers and nephews on the family farm. He had friends in South Dakota and made many trips there with his brothers to hunt on their ranch.

He spent many weekends at his cabin near Lock Haven, where he made lifelong friends.

He enjoyed NASCAR races, and went to several races in Daytona, Fla., with his brothers and grandson. He was a Penn State football fan and attended many games, including the Rose Bowl Game in 1995 with his grandchildren. Bill loved spending time with his grandchildren and took them to Florida every summer while they were growing up. Bill will be remembered for his optimistic outlook on life.

Bills family would like to thank Geisinger Hospice Nurses who were so kind to him the last four and a half months of his life.

A very special thank you to Gwen Bowen for the loving and compassionate care she gave to Bill for many years.

Bill is survived by a daughter, Carol Smith, of Shamokin Dam; a grandson, Daniel S. Smith and his wife, Lori, of Northumberland; a granddaughter, Michelle A Smith, of Forty Fort; great-granddaughter, Jocelyn Smith, of Northumberland; great-grandson, Noah Smith, of Northumberland; five nephews, Robert Campbell and his wife, Donna, John Campbell and his wife, Karen, James Campbell, David Campbell and his wife, Lori, and Kevan Campbell and his wife, Cathy; and many great-nieces and nephews.
