Walter Arthur Brosious (Shug) Obituary

Walter "Shug" Arthur Brosious passed away Thursday, Dec. 5, 2024.


He was born May 4, 1942, a son of the late John A. and Grace G. Brosious. Shug graduated from Sunbury High School in 1960. Following graduation he served in the National Guard. He became a Sunbury police officer in 1964 and retired as Chief of Police in 1982. He was employed at the former Celotex plant in Sunbury in 1982 as a security guard and became chief fire inspector for the facility until retirement in 2001. He also worked at Surplus Outlet in Northumberland from 2007 until 2019.


Shug was a life member of the following organizations: Rescue Hose Company, Herndon Fire Company, American Legion Post 44, Point Township Fire Company and member of VFW in Sunbury and Moose Lodge 181 in Sunbury, Northumberland Hook and Ladder Company, and Masonic Lodge Order No. 194 in Selinsgrove.


Shug enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, motorcycling, fast pitch softball and basketball. He enjoyed spending time with his family at different sporting events and weekend getaways at their cabin. He especially enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters, spoiling them any chance he could.


Surviving are his wife, Tess; son, John "JA" and Rashelle; granddaughters, Aria and Scarlett Brosious of Milton; son, Joshua and Brittany Fisher of Sunbury; brothers, John W. and Andi of Florida, William and Terry Penn of Harrisburg; niece, Melody Jaffe; and nephew, Matt of Florida.


Preceding him in death was daughter, Ruth Esther.


Visitation will be held from 8:30 to 9:50 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at the Zweier Funeral Home, 157 Chestnut St., Sunbury, followed by a Masonic service at 10. A Celebration of Life will be held from noon to 2 p.m. at The Midtown Bistro in Sunbury.


Interment will be in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
