Vogene Lindsey Deitrick, 91, of Danville, passed into eternal glory surrounded by her family on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2024, at her residence.


She was born March 6, 1933, in Baltimore, Maryland, the daughter of the late Clayton J. and Haidee V. Lindsey. Vogene was raised by her late stepparents, Ernest and Esther Dalton.


Vogene graduated from Factoryville Area High School (Lackawanna Trail) and pursued a career in nursing from Scranton State Hospital School of Nursing graduating in 1956.


She began her career working at the Danville State Hospital. It was there that she met William Donald Deitrick Sr. her husband of 24 years. After being an RN at the state hospital, she transitioned to Geisinger Medical Center in the ENT department from where she retired in 1996.


Vogene was an active member of First Baptist Church, Danville where she sang in the choir and volunteered with Vacation Bible School. She also enjoyed being a den mother and a brownie leader.


Vogene truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures. She enjoyed birdwatching, jigsaw puzzles, sewing, and gardening.


She is survived by three children, William Deitrick and his wife Shirley of Danville, Robert Deitrick of Oklahoma and Beth Anne of Danville. Vogene was a loving grammy to Renee, Kelly, Kimberly, Shelby, Amber, and Jonathan. She was blessed with eight great-grandchildren, Abigail, Bristol, Will, Evan, Kate, Brazen, Brady, and Allie. Vogene is also survived by one sister, Janice Maglio of Hastings, Florida; and one great-niece, Samantha Bickhart of Lancaster, Pa.


In addition to her parents and stepparents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Lyle; and her step-siblings, Ernest Dalton and Sallie Bickhart.


Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Vogene's Life to be held Friday, Nov. 8, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 12 Brookside Drive (Route 642 East), Danville, with the Rev. Dawes J. Dunham officiating. Friends will be received from 10 to 10:45 a.m.


The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
