Virgo Holmes Zeek Obituary
Northumberland, Pennsylvania - Virgo Holmes Zeek, 95, of Northumberland, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2020, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Virgo was born March 6, 1925, in Hummels Wharf, a son of the late John H. and Emma (Yeager) Zeek. After losing his parents at a young age, Virgo became a resident of the Scotland School for Veterans' Children in Scotland, Pa. Upon graduation, he enlisted as a Private in the U.S. Army and served his country in the European theater of World War II.
In 1948, he married Mary M. Showers of Mount Pleasant Mills. Virgo retired from Textron Industries in Danville. He served his church, Landmark Apostolic Church in Riverside, throughout the years in many roles including secretary-treasurer, Sunday school teacher, and church Board member. He was a member of the Shikellamy Archery Club in Fishers Ferry, where he served as secretary-treasurer for many years.
Virgo loved hunting and fishing. He also loved his family very much. However, his greatest love was the Lord Jesus Christ. His greatest experience was when he was baptized in Jesus name and received the gift of the Holy Spirit. Some of the greatest memories of Virgo was of him sitting in his chair reading his Bible or hearing the sound of his prayers coming from the bedroom.
He is survived by his children, Cindy (Mike) Gates, of New Columbia, Deborah (David) MacDonald of Bristol, Conn., and Donald (Tammy) Zeek of Johnstown; eight grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
Virgo was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary, who died on June 6, 2013; four sisters, Gladys Sandler, Izora Young, Elsie Connor, and Claudine Straw; and three brothers, Harry Zeek, Richard Zeek, and Kenneth Zeek.
A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at the Landmark Apostolic Church, 1897 Sunbury Road, Danville, followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. with Pastor Aaron Wright officiating.
Interment will follow in Northumberland Memorial Park with military honors by American Legion Post 40 Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Landmark Apostolic Church, 1897 Sunbury Road, Danville, PA 17821.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Roat-Kriner Funeral Home, 1133 Bloom Road, Danville.
