Todd William Benner, 68, of Montoursville (formerly of Shamokin Dam), passed away Saturday, Aug. 3, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born March 30, 1956, a son of the late Robert Eugene Benner and Jane Cyrene (Hottenstein) Benner.
Todd was a 1974 graduate of Selinsgrove Area High School where he was a trombone player in the school's marching band. After high school he pursued a career in banking and music. He was an avid musician, taking his first music job at the age of 15 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Northumberland as the organist and music director.
During his lifetime he served as organist and music director at numerous churches throughout this area, including St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Shamokin Dam, the same church that he was baptized as an infant and later was confirmed. He also served as organist and music director at several churches in the Rehoboth Beach, Delaware area. He was last employed at Trinity United Methodist Church in Jersey Shore.
Todd's passion to play the pipe organ was unmeasurable. In his younger years he took great pride in helping children experience their passion for music by providing both organ and piano lessons to many children of this area.
One of Todd's other passions was cooking. He loved to cook for family gatherings. It was evident that he loved to do this because if we needed two of something he would make eight, if we needed a quart of something, he would make gallons. No one left hungry.
He is survived by his long time companion, Javier Francisco Limon Aguilera of Montoursville; sister, Tracy (Edward) Mertes of Williamsport; brother, Mark (Debra) Benner of Shamokin Dam; nieces and nephews, Josh (Kara) Herb, Matthew Benner, Michelle (Michael) Yaw, Kimberly and Jane Mertes; great-nieces and nephews, Brooklynn and Beckett Herb, Klane Benner, Eliana and Vivi Yaw; special friends, Felipe Limon and Irma Gutierrez, Oralia and Danilo Menendez and their children Kayla, Jair, Joel, Daniel, Juan, Martha, Maggie and Christian; and one of his biggest joys in life, his beloved dog, Rosie.
A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, Aug. 17, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Shamokin Dam (behind Hoss's restaurant).
