Sylvia Gagnon Gleason Obituary

Lewisburg - Sylvia Gagnon Gleason, a friend to many in the Lewisburg area, died Sunday, May 3, 2026. Born July 29, 1933, in Springfield, Massachusetts, she was the only child of Gabriel and Florine Belanger Gagnon. She and her husband, Martin L. Gleason, moved to their much-loved farmette in Lewisburg in 1976.

After her husband's death in 1988, she became a world traveler, biking throughout Europe and Asia as well as New Zealand. She and her friend Ann Longanbach mapped bicycle routes throughout Union County for pamphlets for the Susquehanna Valley Visitors Bureau where she also worked for a while. Her license plate read BIKNGAL.

Sylvia liked to be busy, volunteering with the Red Cross, Evangelical Hospital, The Arts Festival, and Library Auction. She gladly took on the job that not many like, asking for donations. She delivered for Meals on Wheels for many years surprising hospital staff on a visit to the ER in her 80s that she didn't receive meals, but delivered them!

Over the years, she worked at Hallmark Cards, where she met her husband, Sprout, in Muncy, Bucknell, and Brookpark, putting her secretarial training from Bay Path Junior College to good use.

Entertaining friends at dinners in her home was a gift she thoroughly enjoyed giving. For many years, her red barn was the site of gatherings and yard sales. She enjoyed trips with various groups of friends to the Williamsport Symphony, mystery birthday tours, Thanksgiving dinners and eating out at area restaurants. Several times at the library auction, Sylvia won a chef-prepared meal in Carlisle, inviting friends to join her on a limousine ride for dinner.

Exercising was something she loved, working out three times a week for decades. In her later years, she was lovingly cared for by her long-time trainer, Mary Adams and her family who gave her a real sense of family.

She was predeceased by her husband, Martin; mother-in-law, Lynda Gleason; sister-in-law Jane Norton and her husband George.

She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church.

Sylvia is survived by her many friends and her cat, Mama.

If desired, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., FL. 17, Chicago IL 60601-7633.

Services will be at the convenience of the family.
