LAMOINE, Maine — Susan J. Abbott-Christie, 55, of Lamoine, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2011, with her husband and daughters by her side at Mount Desert Island Hospital, Bar Harbor. She was born June 28, 1955, in Fort Dix, N.J., the daughter of Jean Abbott, of Winfield, Pa., and the late Richard Abbott. Susan attended school in Lewisburg, Pa., and graduated from Pennsylvania State University. She was for many years a nurse at Mount Desert Island Hospital. She also worked as a school nurse for Sumner High School and with the Mount Desert Nursing Association. One of her last and most enjoyable jobs was at Westside Florist, where most of her inner beauty manifested itself in floral displays. Her favorite job was as nana, caring for her grandson, Matthew. Susan was a kind, compassionate and thoughtful woman. Her gentle nature, consistently displayed to her work colleagues, family and friends, made everyone a bit better. She was a role model for ultimate care-giving with an infectious smile that would quietly bring calm and comfort to those around her. Her gift to those who knew and loved her was “pass on kindness to all, be grateful for the blessings in life, see goodness and smile!” Susan is survived by and an inspiration for her three beautiful daughters, Emily, Caitlin and Julia; grandson, Matthew; and grateful husband, Bob. She also is survived by her mother, Jean, and brother, Rick Abbott, of Glide, Ore. A celebration of Susan’s life was held April 22 in Lamoine Baptist Church, Lamoine.
