Steven K. Baker, 72, Beaver Springs
Steven K. "Dewey" Baker, 72, of rural Beaver Springs passed away on Monday, December 16, 2024 at his home with his loving family by his side.
He was born November 7, 1952 in Lewistown, a son of Edna M. (Snook) Baker and the late Gordon K. Baker.
Dewey was a graduate of West Snyder High School with the class of 1970.
He proudly served in the United States Army from 1972-1974. Dewey served as an MP with the 193rd Unit, U.S. Army in Dahn, Germany. Dewey was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He was a marksman M-16 sharpshooter and also a sharpshooter with the .45 cal. pistol.
As a young boy he worked on the family farm. Later in life he worked at the Beavertown Weaving Mill and Lozier in McClure until his retirement.
Dewey was a 50-year member of the McClure Legion Post 942 and a member of the West End Sportsman Club in Weikert. He was a family man and very much-loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dewey was an avid hunter and fisherman as well. He was also a proud Gold Star father-in-law of a fallen veteran.
Surviving are three children, Eric (Amy) Baker, Dody Baker Callahan and Robert (Amanda) Baker; eleven grandchildren, Tyler (Shawnee), Cassandra, Amber (Charles), Caitlin (Jesse), Devin (Alexis), Brady (Mary), Brooke, Bridget (Nick), Matthew (LeAnn) and Katie, Ian; six great-grandchildren; Aubrielle, Quinleigh, Waylon, Wyatt, Riley Ann, Weston Dewey; three sisters, Sonja (Rick) Layton, Lottie Baker (John Butcosk) and Kathy Baker; Uncle, Dennis (Judy) Snook; Aunts, Janet Baker and Gail Baker; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; countless whisker babies; and his faithful companion, his cat Bella.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, SFC Keith A. Callahan who was killed in action in Iraq on January 24, 2007.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 21 at 1 pm in Black Oak Ridge Cemetery, McClure with Pastor Jeffrey Snyder officiating. Full military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 942, McClure.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to honor Dewey's memory may be made to American Legion Post 942, 36 E. Ohio St., McClure, PA 17841.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Residential Hospice team for their care and compassion they provided for Steven.
Arrangements are by the Kreamer Funeral Home, 130 S. Zechman St., Beavertown.
