Charleston, IL - Steven Ayers

CHARLESTON - Steven Glenn Ayers, 77, of Charleston, passed away Monday, May 25, 2026 at home, with family at his side.

Steve was born January 30, 1949 at Charleston, son of Henry and Lela M. (Sandiford) Ayers. He married Alma Book, June 21, 1985 at Charleston; she survives. Also surviving are five children, Jeff Ayers and partner Heather Kirby of Mattoon, Curt Ayers and wife Valerie of Ashmore, Heidi Richardson and husband Dave of Glendale, AZ, John Black of Moweaqua, IL, and Jessie Ayers of Muncy, PA; three sisters, Glenna Gobert, Toni Bell, Dianna Pepperdine and husband Donnie, all of Charleston, and one brother, Lew Ayers, and wife Michelle of Owingsville, KY. Steve has also been blessed by ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, son, Craig Steven Ayers, three sisters, Sandy Myers, Patricia Ayers, and Cheryl Ayers, and by one brother-in-law, Chuck Gobert.

Steve was a 1967 graduate of Charleston High School. He worked as a printing press operator for 42 years at Moore Business Forms, working 26 years at their Charleston, IL plant, 4 years at their Rochester, IN plant, and 12 years at their Lewisburg, PA plant. He enjoyed yard work and watching his Chicago Cubs and Bears play. Steve's quick wit and sarcastic sense of humor will be greatly missed.
