St. Simons Island, Georgia - Steven Eugene Arbogast, 76, of St. Simons Island, Ga., passed away with his family by his side on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2025.
Born on Feb. 1, 1949, in Sunbury, Steve was the son of Harold Eugene Arbogast and Wanda Orpha (Elsesser) Arbogast. Steve grew up on his family farm in Mt. Pleasant Mills.
He graduated from Middleburg High School in 1967, later going on to earn an associate's degree in Computer Science from Williamsport Area Community College and a Bachelor's degree in Social Science from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1991. He served his country proudly for six years in the Pennsylvania National Guard, later transferring to the New York National Guard.
Steve married his high school sweetheart, Thelma (Hollenbach) Arbogast, in 1970 and they built a life and family together in Endicott, NY, as Steve began his 31-year career in Information Technology and Process Management with IBM. His successful career with IBM took him and his family to Putnam County, NY, in 1992. After retiring from IBM in 2000, Steve took on the position of president of the North American Division of Qualiware, a quality software sales and service business. In 2010, Steve and Thelma returned to their roots in Snyder County, enjoying time with family and friends before Thelma's passing in 2017.
After the passing of his beloved wife of 47 years, Steve found renewed joy and companionship and married Linda (Miller) Arbogast in 2018. Together they shared a wonderful new chapter, full of love and they moved to their island paradise, St. Simons Island, Ga., in 2020. In his years on St. Simons Island, Steve dedicated his time and experience to their community HOA, serving the needs of their community as president for several years. Steve's love for his family was endless and he took great pride in the accomplishments of his entire family. He was a gifted woodworker and chef and he took great joy in creating masterpieces both in the kitchen and his workshop.
In addition to his wife, Linda, Steve is survived by his beloved dog, Foxy, his son and daughter-in-law, Shawn and Jacqueline Arbogast, of Mount Pleasant Mills; his daughter and son-in-law, Amber (Arbogast) and Gordon Russo, of East Granby, Conn.; his granddaughters, Karleigh, Makayla an Averie Arbogast, and Elianna and Addyson Russo, and his grandson, Zachary Flory; his sister and brother-in-law, June and Jim Criswell; his sister-in-laws, Pauline Spigelmyer and Peggy Arbogast; his step-children and grandchildren, Michael Ward, of Carlisle, Jamey Giangarlo, of Portland, Ore., and Jessica (and Ryan) Shull, of Carlisle, and their families; and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cousins.
In addition to his first wife, Thelma, he was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Wanda, and his brother, Todd Arbogast.
Dad, you left us too soon and we miss you, more than words can possibly say. You were the "rock" of our family, teaching us the meaning of hard work, giving back, and always putting family first. You could create or fix anything — whether in your workshop or in the kitchen. We are all better people because of you and we will forever keep you in our hearts.
Family and friends are invited to a Service of Memorial and Thanksgiving for Steve's life, Sunday, Nov. 23 at 2:30 p.m. at Winfield Baptist Church, 330 PA-304, in Winfield.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Simons Island Land Trust or the Humane Society of Southeast Georgia.
