Shirley O'Brien Obituary
Lewisburg, Pennsylvania - Shirley O'Brien, 94, of Lewisburg, entered into rest at 5:55 p.m., Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Wellspan Evangelical Hospital, Lewisburg.
She was born on June 21, 1931, in Mifflinburg, a daughter of the late Willard N. and Marie P. (Kratzer) Hackenberg. On March 18, 1992, she married Harry A. VanSickle, who survives. They were together for a total of 48 years.
Shirley was a 1949 graduate of Mifflinburg High School.
Shirley enjoyed antiquing, refinishing and selling antiques at local flea markets. She enjoyed reading, scratch-offs, gardening and taking care of her flowers, and loved dancing in her earlier years.
Surviving in addition to her husband, are five children and their spouses, Kathy and Rande Bilger, of Selinsgrove, Michael Sterling and his partner Linda Baer, of Mifflinburg, David and Lynn Sterling, of Charlotte, N.C., Kelly and Steve Benner, of Williamsport, and John Sterling and his partner Lisa Smith, of Millmont; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and one on the way; two sisters, Joyce Hackenberg of Arizona, and Judy Muchler of Mifflinburg; and sister-in-law, Beth Hackenberg of New Berlin.
She was preceded in death by son, Mark E. Sterling; grandson, Bennett Sterling; and brother, Charlie Hackenberg.
Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family. A celebration of life will be announced shortly.
