Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania - In Loving Memory of Shirley Maurer Sept. 11, 1928 - July 4, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Shirley Romayne Maurer of Selinsgrove on July 4, 2025, at the age of 96.
Shirley was born on Sept. 11, 1928, in Sunbury. She was the eldest daughter of Francis and Laura (Reichenbach) Campbell. As the eldest of the four Campbell daughters, she learned early how to care for her sisters and developed a nurturing spirit that would define her life. She also had a half-sister and half-brother who were born when Shirley was an adult.
After graduating from Sunbury High School in 1946, Shirley worked at Big Boy Auto. She married the love of her life, Robert D. Maurer, on Feb. 1, 1947. Their loving marriage spanned 63 years, until Bob's passing in 2010.
Shirley and Bob began their life together in Ohio before moving to Harrisburg and eventually settling in Belleville, Pa., where they raised their two sons. In 1989, they moved to Selinsgrove, where Shirley would live for the remainder of her life. The move brought them closer to their children, grandchildren, and to Shirley's sisters and many nieces and nephews.
A devoted homemaker during her sons' younger years, Shirley later worked at Kish Bank, where she worked for many years before retiring. Together, Shirley and Bob shared a love of adventure, spending many joyful years traveling and camping across the country. They especially cherished winters in sunny Florida. In her later years, Shirley enjoyed the quiet pleasure of knitting and cross-stitching and treasured time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A woman of deep faith, Shirley loved the Lord and found joy in the blessings of family and fellowship. She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Maurer, of Selinsgrove.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bob (2010), her son Thomas Maurer (2020) and daughter-in-law Lynn Maurer (2006).
Shirley's legacy lives on through her cherished grandchildren: Todd Maurer, son of Jeffrey, of Selinsgrove; Andrew Maurer, son of Tom, and his wife Christine, of Broad Run, Va., and their six children; Daniel Maurer, also son of Tom, and his wife Linde, of Nicholson, Pa., and their two daughters. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Shirley will be remembered for her gentle spirit, quiet strength and steadfast devotion to her family. Her warmth, kindness and faith-filled life touched many, and her legacy of love will continue to live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 19, at 11 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church, 203 Arch St., Sunbury, with Rev. Ron Trout officiating. Interment immediately following at Pomfret Manor Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. at the Faith UMC. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith United Methodist Church.
Arrangements by the V. L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove.
