Shirley M. Feaster, 93, of Riverside, passed away peacefully into the arms of her loving Lord and Savior, Sunday, Jan. 28, 2024, at her home where she had resided for 64 years.
She was born Oct. 15, 1930, in Danville, a daughter of the late Grant and Irene M. (Shepperson) Garman.
She graduated from Danville High School.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Francis H. Feaster. They were married Oct. 2, 1948.
Shirley was a devoted wife and homemaker throughout her life. After caring for and raising her seven children, she worked as a residential service aide at Selinsgrove Center and Danville State Hospital, from where she retired in 1990.
She was a member of PARSE (Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees) and thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the Danville/Tri-County After 5 Club.
Shirley loved life and had numerous interests including being an avid reader, taking road trips with her husband, crossword puzzles, ceramics, flower arranging to always give to others. She also loved collecting dolls and was a talented seamstress making clothes for her children and grandchildren throughout their lives including a tuxedo and Barbie Doll clothes. Shirley wholeheartedly supported her children in all their endeavors wherever it took her on any day. Her greatest achievement was loving her family and loving people.
She will be remembered as a beacon of light who left a sparkle wherever she went, whose selflessness and unwavering compassion enriched the lives of countless individuals. Shirley will forever be missed, but her legacy of kindness and love will endure within the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
She is survived by one son, Mark C. Feaster of Milton; and four daughters, Glenda D'Urso Northumberland, Dee Embick and her husband James of Milton, Melissa (Feaster) Keefer of Riverside, and Amy Feaster of Milton. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one sister, Vicki Pursel and her husband James of Riverside; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Roger C. Feaster and Francis V. Feaster; two granddaughters, Kim Riggs and Dawn Feaster; one brother, Carl Garman; and one sister, Darlis Reeder.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Shirley's life to be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Visneski Funeral Home, Inc., 42 W. Mahoning St., Danville, with the Rev. Robert D. Barner officiating. Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
A Columbarium inurnment will be held following the service in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Danville.
The family will provide flowers.
