Sharon Grimm Obituary

Sunbury, Pennsylvania - Sharon Pope Grimm, 88, of Sunbury, and recently of Emmanuel Home, Northumberland, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.


She was born on Oct. 6, 1937, in Lewisburg, the daughter of the late Harry and Irene (Kessler) Pope, Sunbury. Sharon was a 1955 graduate of Sunbury High School. She received her Bachelor and Master's degrees from Bloomsburg University and taught Spanish for many years at Shikellamy High School, later becoming the supervisor of foreign languages there. She was later employed in Alumni Relations at Bucknell University and also served as a lay chaplain and lay speaker for the United Methodist Church. She was a very compassionate person, often sharing her Christian faith with others and filling in at the pulpit when needed.


In her spare time, Sharon had a great love of reading and also of sewing clothing and making quilts for her family and friends. Many of her beautiful quilts were auctioned off at the family reunions to send support money to Ukraine.


Her greatest joy in life was sharing time with family. She is survived by five siblings: Ron (Judy) Pope, Gary (Ann) Pope, James Pope and Patricia Pope, all of Sunbury and Susan (Richard) Herbster of Duncannon and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Catherine Quinton of Riverside, her sister-in-law, Dianne Pope and by two daughters-in-law, Velma Herold Lunger and Debora Hilldale Lunger. She was predeceased by her husband, David Grimm in 2016.


She is also survived by her three children: Mark and Shelia Lunger, of Northumberland, Holly and Paul Kieffer and Randy and Karen Lunger, of Sunbury. Also five stepchildren: Susan and Jack O'Brien, of Glen Gardner, N.J., Steven and Deb Grimm, of Branchville, N.J., Amy and Tim Kenny, of Brick, N.J., Vicki and Charles Beaver, of Northumberland and Laurie and Gary Szukalski of Frederick, Md.; 7 grandchildren; 14 stepgrandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.


Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, Sunbury, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Eric Light officiating.


Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.
