Catawissa, Pennsylvania - Ronald William Long, 88, of Riverhill Drive, Catawissa, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2025.


He was born in Locust Township, Columbia County, to William E. and Sarah A. (Miller) Long on April 9, 1937.


He attended Newlin Elementary School and graduated from Roaring Creek High School, Numidia, where he lettered in baseball, basketball and soccer. He later played baseball for the Danville Jr. Legion and Tri-County teams. As a left-handed pitcher, he received offers from the Philadelphia Phillies, Cleveland Indians and Pittsburgh Pirates.


He was employed by TRW and Textron, Danville, where he held several management positions, including general manager of the Textron Plant, retiring at the age of 58.


During his career at TRW, he was assigned as supervisor of an airfoil manufacturer in Israel beginning in 1974 to the end of 1975. He also spent time in Japan participating in a productivity tour of Japanese manufacturing in 1985. In 1987, he attended the Harvard Business School.


He was a member of Elysburg Lodge #349 of the former Catawissa Lodge #349, where he twice served as Worshipful Master. He was also a member of the Caldwell Consistory, Bloomsburg, where he received the meritorious Service Award in 1999. In 2006, he received the 33rd Degree in Chicago, the highest award in Scottish Rite Masonry.


Ronald was a lifetime member of Grace United Church of Christ, Millgrove, serving a number of times on the church consistory and as Sunday School superintendent for many years.


He was also a member of and past President of the Catawissa Valley Lions Club, the Bloomsburg Elks Lodge, and a Charter member of the North Kulp Hunting Club.


Ronald enjoyed hunting, golfing, woodworking, gardening, and following the Phillies and Southern Columbia sports. Ronnie enjoyed traveling, especially on vacations with his family. He most recently cruised to Bermuda with his children and grandchildren in August of 2025.


Ron was a giving man who quietly helped people in need in his community.


He married the former Nancy Barnes on Oct. 10, 1959. Her death on Oct. 29, 2018, severed a 59-year marriage.


He is survived by three children, Roxanne, wife of Dr. Alan J. Lonoconus, Jane, wife of Robert Brezinski and Craig and companion Kay Rodriquez; and daughter by choice, Molly Riegel, all of the Catawissa area.


Ron was a loving "Pap" to his six grandchildren, Chelsea Lonoconus Mantz, Austin Lonoconus, Jared and Jadyn Brezinski, Miranda and Gage Long and four great-grandchildren, Easton and Everly Mantz, Ava and Lilah Lonoconus.


He is also survived by two sisters, Barbara, the wife of the late Glenn Shaffer of Lightstreet and Mary Lou, wife of Jerry Manhart, of Reading, and many nieces and nephews.


A viewing will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5, with Masonic services at 7 p.m. at the Allen R. Horne Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 193 McIntyre Road, Catawissa. A one-hour viewing will be held on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 10 to 11 a.m. before the church service at Grace United Church of Christ, Millgrove, 1 Pension St. He will be laid to rest next to his wife and parents in the church cemetery.
