Middleburg - Ronald D. Shambach, 89, of rural Middleburg, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, unexpectedly at his home.

He was born Dec. 11, 1935, Middleburg, a son of the late Leroy and Madeline (Bowersox) Shambach. Ronald was a 1953 graduate of Middleburg High School and in 1953, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps., where he served for three years before being honorably discharged.

On March 6, 1954, he married the former Donna O. Snook, who survives.

He retired from Faylor-Middlecreek Construction, where he was a superintendent and for 12 years had assisted his wife in the operation of Snook's Restaurant. Ron was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Middleburg, the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1229, Middleburg. He enjoyed dining out, as well as traveling, especially taking many trips to the Western United States. He found his greatest joy in his family.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 71 years is a daughter, Kelly Shartzer; two sons, Rod (Stacie) Shambach and Derrick (Jamie) Shambach; his son Steven's longtime companion, Monique; six grandchildren, Chad Erb, Tegan (Jamie) Kotarski, Ashley, Alyssa, Lauren and Devin Shambach, and two great-grandchildren, Easton Erb and Ryker Kotarski, and his faithful companion, his dog Tucker.

He was preceded in death by a son, Steven Shambach; a son-in-law, Thomas Shartzer, and two brothers, Lear (Dorothy) Shambach and one in infancy.

Services will be held later with burial in the Penns Creek Union Cemetery and military honors accorded by the Middlewest Veterans Honor Guard.
