Robert J. Rupert
January 7, 1929 - October 24, 2020
Robert J. "Whiz" Rupert, 91, of Milton, passed away Saturday, Oct. 24, 2020, at Nottingham Village, Northumberland, where he was a guest since August.
Born in Mifflinville on Jan. 7, 1929, he was a son of the late Robert W. and Mamie F. (Robinholt) Rupert.
He graduated from Bloomsburg High School in 1948. In December 1949, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served on active duty until 1952, during the Korean War, and received the Korean Service medal with 5 Bronze Service Stars and United Nations Service Medal. Earlier this year, he was notified he was a recipient of the Ambassador for Peace medal, which he received recently. Whiz worked at Magee Carpet for several years, and later retired from Lear Seigler Inc. (LSI), Bloomsburg where he was employed as a truck driver for more than 20 years.
In 1954, he married the love of his life, Joanne (George) Rupert, with whom he would have celebrated 66 years of marriage on Dec. 11. They enjoyed spending time together, especially traveling to Florida for the winter, and during the summer, camping at Hidden Valley Campground, Mifflinburg, where they were members for more than 40 years.
Whiz was a life and charter member of the Lime Ridge Fire Company and also a member of Espy Fire Company. He was a life member of Moose Lodge 1396, Mifflinburg. He enjoyed roller skating, square dancing, playing baseball and league bowling, as well as hunting.
In addition to his wife, Joanne, he will be greatly missed by his daughter, Ruth Ann Wilson and husband Vince, Levittown; Diann Shamburg and husband Rich, Watsontown; son, Ron Rupert and wife Kim, Clermont, Fla.; four grandchildren, Jessica, Andrew, Stephanie and Evan; and two great-granddaughters, Ella and Fiona. He also leaves behind sisters, Lois V. Rupert, Lime Ridge and Joyce M. Ansbach, Berwick; a brother, Larue G. "Pappy" Rupert, Lime Ridge; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, William L., Harold E. and Floyd L. Rupert; a sister, Elizabeth Roeder; brothers-in-law, Eugene Roeder and Daniel Ansbach; and sisters-in-law, Emily Rupert and Beverly Rupert.
At Whiz's request there will be no public services.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Lime Ridge Fire Company or Espy Fire Company.

Plant a tree: How does it work
When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.
An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.
After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.
Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.

Planting will take place in Spring or Summer of the same year.
June - December
Planting will take place in Spring of the following year.
