Freeburg, Pennsylvania - Robert L. Heintzelman, 77, of Freeburg, passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

He was born May 12, 1948, in Sunbury, a son of the late H. Leroy and Anna Mae Roush Heintzelman.

Robert was a 1966 graduate of Selinsgrove High School and served in the Army during the Vietnam War, where he was awarded 2 0/S Bars, the Vietnam Counteroffensive Phase 6 Medal, the GCMDL Medal, the Tet 69 Counteroffensive Medal, the Vietnam Summer-Fall 1969 Medal and the Vietnam Winter-Spring 1970 Medal, among other awards.

On Aug. 29, 1970, he married the former Bonnie L. Walter, who survives.

He had operated Walter's Arco in Freeburg for 31 years and later retired from Bastian Tire and Auto.

Robert was a member of the St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Shamokin Dam.

He was a life member of the Freeburg Fire Company and a member of the former Shamokin Dam Lions Club.

He was active in Boy Scouting in Freeburg, holding many positions.

He enjoyed gardening, reading and was a great cook and baker.

He was very community-minded and loved to do service for the community.

He'll be remembered for his dedication to his family.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Daniel (Jenn) Heintzelman; a daughter, Reba Heintzelman; three grandchildren, Benjamin, Levi and Rebekah; a sister, Kathy (David) Hupp; and a brother, Donald Heintzelman.

Robert was preceded in death by a son, Rodney Heintzelman, and his in-laws, Richard and Mildred Walter.

Services will be private.

Burial with military honors will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Freeburg.
