Milton - Robert E. Benfer, 90, of Milton passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at his home.

Born in Dry Valley on April 27, 1935, he was the son of the late Ira Paul and Esther Mae (Renninger) Benfer. He was married to the former Margaret Shellenberger. Together they celebrated 39 years of marriage until her death in 2015.

Robert attended Mifflinburg Area Schools. He worked for Boops Aluminum Castings, now Q-Cast, and Lewisburg Area School District. He served in the US Army from 1958 to 1962.

He is survived by two sons, Garry R. Benfer of Lewisburg, Randy L. Benfer of New Orleans; three stepsons, Richard E. Chestnut of Milton, Gary L. Chestnut of Watsontown, and Timothy A. Chestnut of Sweet Valley; eight grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and two sisters Shirley Marotto of Northumberland and Nancy Straub of Winfield.

In addition to his wife Margaret, he was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Julie M. Huff; two brothers, Ira John Benfer and Franklin Benfer; and four sisters Mary Boop, Barbara Ellis, Dorothy Ward and Martha Anderson.

Friends and relatives will be received on Friday, April 24, 2026, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N. Front St., Milton. Funeral services will begin at 2 with Pastor John Yost officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Highland Cemetery, New Columbia.
