Danville - Robert Craig Hort, 83, of Danville, Pa., passed away July 25, 2026, at his home. Craig was born in Danville, on March 10, 1943, a son of the late Robert Eugene and Mary Jane (Bennett) Hort.

A 1961 graduate of Danville High School, Craig attended the University of Buffalo and Lock Haven State University, earning a BS in Health and Physical Education.

After a year as a member of the faculty of Addison Central School, Craig returned to his alma mater, as an educator and successful coach of football, track, tennis and wrestling. He was instrumental in developing the Groundhog Wrestling program, which introduced elementary school students to the sport. Retiring after 33 years, Craig was involved in his community as a member of the Elks and served on the Odd Fellows Cemetery Board, as well as the Riverside Borough Council.

An avid sportsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, biking, cross country skiing, bowling and golf. Boating and teaching his children and grandchildren to water ski in the Susquehanna and at the Finger Lakes were favorite summer pastimes.

Craig was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard E. Hort of Northumberland, in 2023.

Craig is survived by his wife of 58 years, Vickie (Park) Hort; daughter, Nicole Hoyes of Danville; son, Christopher Hort and his wife, Mary Kay of State College, and grandchildren, Olivia, Robert and Christopher.

Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026 from 9:30 to 11 a.m., at St. Hubert's Chapel, within St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 68 Center St., Danville. A Prayer service will be held at 11 a.m., also in the chapel. Interment will be private.
