Midlothian, Virginia - Richard L. Fausey passed away on Nov. 27, 2025, at Spring Arbor Cottages in Midlothian, Virginia, at the age of 89.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Joanna; his brother, Robert Fausey; sister, Mary Jo Taylor, and is survived by his brother, Thomas Fausey.

Born in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, on Dec. 1, 1935, he was the son of the late Theodore Kenneth and Evelyn Burgess Fausey.

A graduate of Sunbury High School, class of 1953, Richard was also an enthusiastic member of the school's marching band, continuing to play the trumpet for his family for many years. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served for three years. Using the GI Bill, he put himself through Susquehanna University, graduating with a B.A. in Mathematics in 1961, the first in his family to go to college.

He married the late Joanna K. Nicholas in 1961 and began a 31-year career with the Department of Defense at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, Virginia. Together they raised three daughters, Debbie Fausey, Patty Riester (John), and Pam Plaatsman (Steve), all of Richmond, Virginia. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Bradley Riester (Lauren), Ian Riester, Kala Riester, Aly Plaatsman, and Jenna Plaatsman, as well as two great-grandchildren, Wyatt Riester and Joanna Riester.

Richard was an avid golfer, teaching his daughters to play on the nine-hole course at Dahlgren. He also enjoyed bowling, another hobby he passed down to his daughters. Spending time with his family was his favorite activity, as he was a loving father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Life is planned for 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026, at Salisbury Presbyterian Church, 13621 W. Salisbury Road, Midlothian, Virginia 23113.
