Richard Owen Davis (Rick) Obituary

Richard Owen Davis, 74 (but a kid at heart!), of Selinsgrove, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 18, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Born June 26, 1949, in Tucson, Arizona, to Charles Owen Davis and Elaine Germaine Neller, Rick dedicated his life to his family, service, and community.

Rick married Wendy Ellen Hottel on Sept. 5, 1981. Together, they nurtured a family that thrived on love and mutual respect. He was a constant presence in the lives of his children, guiding them with a gentle hand and a generous spirit. He crafted a cherished wooden dollhouse, swing set and beloved rope swing, created countless joyful memories, and taught valuable lessons in patience and perseverance. His love for his children was unparalleled, matched only by his affection for his granddaughters, who lovingly called him Pappy. He cherished every moment spent with them, fostering a legacy of love and joy.

Rick earned his bachelor of science from Purdue University. After serving honorably in the Air Force National Reserve and earning his JD from Fordham University, Rick built a distinguished career at the Internal Revenue Service, eventually rising to Assistant Branch Chief. He transitioned to academia as a Professor of Accounting at the Sigmund Weis School of Business, where he taught for three decades and authored key publications on tax law. Alongside his wife, he guided many students in the London study abroad program. His commitment extended into the community through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, providing valuable tax preparation experience to accounting students and service to local residents. As a beloved soccer coach, he shared his passion for sports and teamwork.

Rick's courage and strength were evident in his participation in clinical trials for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a reflection of his love for science and his hope to contribute to a better understanding of the condition. In a final act of service, he donated his body to science.

Rick's spirit continues to shine through his loving wife, Wendy; their children, Kelly and her husband Jason, Ricky and his wife Chelsey; his five adored granddaughters, who brought immense joy to his life; and his sisters, Karen and Barbara, and his sister Ann, who predeceased him.

Celebrating his life, Rick's family cherishes the warm memories and lasting impacts he made. They invite contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project in his memory instead of flowers.

Arrangements are by the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove.
