Michael J. Nachtway, 68, of Lewisburg, peacefully made his way over the rainbow on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2022, after a hard fight with Myelodysplastic Syndrome.
Mike was a devoted outdoorsman with a trophy wall to prove it. Getting his start at a young age by skipping school to go fishing with his friends, Mike went on to become a waterfowl guide on the Chesapeake Bay and highly enjoyed showing off his skills to clueless and wealthy businessmen that hired him.
In keeping with his love of the outdoors, Mike was also an avid boater and car enthusiast. Mike built many boats over the years ranging from simple river John boats to center console Carolina Skiffs. Although nothing quite compared to the yellow West Wind or the bright red and white Rinker with a gil bracket that was infamous on the Susquehanna River. There were many fond memories made behind the wheels of his boats and Mopars, though his biggest regret in life is selling his 1971 GTX 440, which he was reminded of every time he watched Barrett-Jackson Auctions on TV.
Mike was very easily a Jack of All Trades in both his hobbies and careers. Mike and his loving wife of 42 years, Donna (Folio), orchestrated powerboat races and organized and ran the largest smallmouth bass fishing tournament on the Susquehanna River, pulling in anglers from over six different states in the early-'80s. After the birth of their daughters, Courtney Jamieson (Kevin) and Kelsey Galfo (Anthony), Mike and Donna jumped headfirst into coaching AYSO and Travel soccer (Go Lazers!) and serving as the co-presidents of Lewisburg Gators swim team. Mike has always been a supporter of Lewisburg Green Dragons athletics too.
Mike excelled in many careers over the years. Graduating from SUN Tech as a draftsman, Mike went on to work as an estimator at Klinger Lumber. He worked for two family businesses, Mr. Carmen Inc. and Champs Sports Factory and then opened Robbins Marine South in Port Trevorton; all while working his own winter snowplow business on the side. Mike finished his working life as the president and general manager of Susquehanna Motor Company, a struggling business that he made prosper.
Mike was an outstanding human being who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Mike is very fortunate to be able to live on through his loving grandchildren, Jett, Tymber and Pyper Jamieson and Drake and Ivy Galfo. Beyond his wife and daughters, Mike is survived by his sister, Mary (Greg) Adams, who has been a blessing during this difficult time; Arris (Jeff) Moser, Fred and Matthew Nachtway, Glenn (Brenda) Folio and many nieces and nephews.
A private celebration of life will be held during warmer weather.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mike's name to the Green Dragon Foundation at https://www.greendragonfoundation.org/donations/ or 115 Farley Circle, Suite 306, Lewisburg, PA, 17837.
