Mary E. Miller Obituary
Mary Eva (Chambers) Miller, age 90, of Exchange, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, Jan. 22, 2021. She follows her husband of 59 years, William R. Miller, Sr., who died in January 2010.
Mary was born in Slackwater, Lancaster County, by the Conestoga Creek on April 8, 1930, to Frank and Mary (Kiphorn) Chambers. She had a brother, Frank Jr., and a sister, Nancy, when they were growing up on Hazel Street in the southern side of Lancaster. She married William Miller on Nov. 11, 1950, and they settled into a house they built in Conestoga.
Mary was very active in the Conestoga community. She served with the local PTA and with Conestoga Cub Scout Pack 346 for many years. She and Bill Sr. raised sons, Bill Jr. and Steve, in the Conestoga house until 1970 when they moved to Montour County.
Mary loved the outdoors. She loved to fish and hunt in her early family years. She shared this love with her family over many vacations to the woods and to the beach. Mary's ability to create crafts from virtually anything was unmatched and she could always be counted on to deliver handmade Christmas ornaments to every family member every year. Mary collected many things and could always be counted on to find and provide some odd tool or gadget if needed.
Mary was very active in the area Grange, the Eastern Star and also the Turbotville VFW Women's Auxiliary. She enjoyed making and serving funnel cakes at the Montour-Delong Fair.
Mary is survived by two sons, William R. Miller, Jr. and his wife Diane of Exchange and Steven Miller, and his wife Joanne of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren, Melissa Bogart of Berwick, William R. Miller III of Bloomsburg, Michael Miller of Denver, Colo. and Kathryn Miller of Loveland, Colo.; four great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mary will be missed by her family.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in the Salem Evangelical Reformed "Heller's" Church Cemetery in Lancaster County.
