Selinsgrove - Marian Eleanor Lewis Beaver, 97, peacefully passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 1:50 p.m. at Nottingham Village in Northumberland, Pennsylvania. She was a former resident of 21 Greenbrier Avenue, Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of the late Mary (Heintzelman) and James Lewis. She married her high school sweetheart Charles R. Beaver on June 4, 1949. He predeceased her Oct. 25, 2009, after 60 devoted years of marriage.
Marian was born and grew up in Shamokin Dam, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Selinsgrove High School Class of 1945 where she loved being a cheerleader and Geisinger School of Nursing Class of 1948 where she graduated at the top of her class. She led a life of devotion to her church and to her family. Her remarkable life spanned almost a century where she played many roles. She easily transitioned from role to role and served as a positive role model with a resilience that is now her legacy to her children and grandchildren. Her smile and positive attitude brought joy to many as she maneuvered the Great Depression, World War II, restarting a full-time registered nurse career at age 55 at Sunbury Community Hospital, and holding countless family gatherings where everyone felt welcomed and well fed.
She managed both joy and sorrow with grace and faith and believed that all things are possible. She was a voracious reader and instilled a love of education in all her children and grandchildren. She gave back to her community through volunteer work including time with the Bloodmobile and government elections. She thoroughly enjoyed competitive games (especially Parcheesi, Pinochle and Penn State football) and all genres of music. She saw all people as "beautiful" and enjoyed regular chats with her children and grandchildren near and far.
Marian is survived by three daughters and one son, including daughter Rebecca S. Deitmen (Kenneth) of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and their children Rachel Welch (Timothy) and grandchildren Katelyn and Michael; Megan Ault (Griffith) and grandchildren Charlotte and Alexander; daughter Judith A. Hayes (David) of Shamokin Dam, Pennsylvania, and their children Brett Hayes (Carol) and Matthew Hayes (Jennifer) and grandchild Lennon; son Charles R. Beaver (Ann), of Berwyn, Pennsylvania, and their children Adam (Maria) and grandchildren Isabel and Lucas; Andrew (Dana) and grandchildren Reid, Garrett, and Spencer; Benjamin (fiancée Kimberleigh); and daughter Kelly L. Peters of Doylestown, Pennsylvania, and her children Lauren Hewins (Andy); Erica Peters (Jesús) and Jenna Peters (Matthew). She is also survived by her sister Annabelle Lizardi and sisters in law Shirley Doyle (William) and Kay Milligan and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Harry Lewis of Danville, Pennsylvania, and her grandparents Bess and Harry Lewis of Shamokin Dam, Pennsylvania.
Friends and relatives will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2025, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, 3249 N. Old Trail, Shamokin Dam, Pennsylvania. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Mindy Bartholomew officiating. Burial will be held at Shreiner's Cemetery, Park Road, Selinsgrove.
