Margaret Woodhead Obituary
Sunbury, Pennsylvania - Margaret Elaine "Peg" Woodhead, 102, formerly of Sunbury and Shamokin Dam, passed away peacefully on Oct. 3, 2025, at The Manor at Penn Village in Selinsgrove. She was born on Aug. 5, 1923, in Sunbury, the daughter of the late Walter Dewey and Mabel Ellen Eveland Zimmerman.
Peg graduated from Sunbury High School in 1941.
She was married for 59 years to the love of her life, Harold K. "Kenny" Woodhead, who preceded her in death on March 12, 2001. They were married on June 21, 1941.
Peg was employed as an Elementary Library Aide for the Shikellamy School District, retiring in 1986.
In 1954, she joined the Stonington Baptist Church and remained the oldest member of her congregation, where she served for many years as a Sunday School teacher and as a deaconess. Peg was also a member of several local garden clubs.
Peg was known to be an excellent cook. She loved growing flowers and was very gifted and well known for her beautiful flower arrangements, from which she received many first place honors.
Peg will be remembered for her faith and her devotion to God. Her greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with her family, all of whom she adored. She spent her life sharing her warmth and kindness, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is survived by two sons: H. Kenneth Woodhead and his wife Judy of Tulsa, Okla., and Ronald J. Woodhead and his wife Ann of Central Point, Ore., and one daughter, Margaret E. Woolard of Springfield. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She is also survived by her good friend, Roy Harris.
She was preceded in death by two sisters: Betty Wirth and Martha Shipe and her son-in-law, William H. Woolard.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Peg's Life to be held on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Stonington Baptist Church, 2113 Hosta Road, Paxinos, with the Reverend Bradley Gray officiating. Friends will be received from 10 to 10:45 a.m.. Burial will follow in Northumberland Memorial Park in Stonington.
