Lorraine T. Benner Obituary

Middleburg - Lorraine Thelma Benner, 89, of Middleburg, went to be with her Lord and savior on Oct. 9 at her home.

She was born Nov. 7, 1935, in Franklin Township, Snyder County, a daughter of the late Ira W. Sr. and Susie E. (Brouse) Keister. On Aug. 8, 1951, she married the late Elwood Eugene (Woody) Benner, whose death July 29, 2015, ended a loving union of 64 years.

Last living sibling of 14 children, she was proceeded in death by six sisters, Dorothy Reich, Eldora Kreider, Edith Snyder, Edna Hare, Shirley Dunkelberger and Betty J. Mengle; and seven brothers, Homer, Leroy, Merle, Bright, Eugene, Ira Jr. and George Keister, as well as a son-in-law, Ronald Beaver.

A member of St. Paul (Erdley's) Lutheran Church, Middleburg, Lorraine attended Middleburg High School. She served as a Girl Scout leader in her earlier years. She worked for a time at the Middleburg silk mill. Beginning in 1960s, she assisted her husband with an appliance business, Woody's TV & Appliance. From the 1970s through her retirement in 2010, she operated concessions related to the family business, Benner Amusements, and, later, Mid Valley Amusements, which operated throughout central and north central Pennsylvania.

Lorraine enjoyed gardening and traveling and most of all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by six children: Kenneth (Kay) Benner, Windermere, Fla.; Trudy (William) Swanger, Mechanicsburg; Kay (Kenneth) Roush of Middleburg; Teresa Beaver, Selinsgrove; Kerry (Christina) Benner, Middleburg; and Troy (Jennifer) Benner, Middleburg; 14 grandchildren: Michael Benner, Stacey Benner, Nathan Swanger, Rebecca Munoz, Phillip Roush, Dana Haile, Shane Beaver, Katrina Heddings, Chase, Alycia, and a Chance Benner, Amanda Shawver, and Ella and Abigail Benner; 16 great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 15. A viewing will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. at St. Paul (Erdley's) Lutheran Church, 2337 Erdley Church Road, followed immediately by the funeral service with Rev. Ann Zimmerman officiating. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery, Middleburg. Family and friends are invited to gather, pay their respects, and celebrate the life and memory of our loved one.
