Linda S. Houser
She was born May 12, 1949, in Allentown, a daughter of the late Alexander Szoke Jr. and Erna (Boandl) Szoke-Berg. On June 5, 1971, she married William L. Houser who survives. The couple were married for 48 years at the time of her passing.
Linda was a 1967 graduate of Catasauqua High School and a 1971 graduate of Bloomsburg State College, receiving a bachelor of science degree in business education.
She was a business teacher from 1971 to 1976 for the Selinsgrove School District and a substitute teacher from 1978 to 2007 for the Selinsgrove School and Midd-West School Districts.
She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Selinsgrove, a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Port Trevorton Fire Company and served as treasurer for the organization. Linda was the local elected tax collector for 30 years and collected taxes for Chapman Township, Snyder County, and the Selinsgrove School District.
Linda enjoyed sewing, tending to her plants, and traveling.
In addition to her husband, Linda is survived by two children and their spouses, twins, William R. and Laura Houser of Brooksville, Md., and Alexa L. and James Igoe of Jim Thorpe; three grandchildren, Ryan and Moira Houser, and Alaina Igoe; one half sister, Anne Augustine and her husband Richard of Florida; a sister-in-law, Debbie Bays of Florida; nieces, nephews, and her mother-in-law, Ruth Houser of Port Trevorton.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather, William Berg; and one brother, Dr. William S. Berg Jr.
Friends and family are invited to the visitation from 8 to 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 112 Fairview Drive, Selinsgrove, followed by a Christian burial at 11, with Father Tukura Pius Michael, O.P. as celebrant.
Private interment will be held at a later date in Paradise Cemetery, Port Trevorton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in loving memory of Linda to the Building Fund at St. Pius X Catholic Church.
The George P. Garman Funeral Homes Inc., 9366 Route 35, Mount Pleasant Mills have been entrusted with the arrangements.
