Lewisburg - Linda Cassidy Treese passed away on April 22, 2025, at the age of 81, after courageously battling Alzheimer's Disease. She was a longtime resident of Lewisburg until 2021, when she moved to Harrisburg.
She leaves behind her two sons Jason Treese (Annandale, N.J.) and Ethan Treese (Purcellville, Va.), her daughter Molly Dowling (Harrisburg, Pa.); her daughters-in-law Leanne Treese and Linda Treese, and her seven grandchildren Cassidy, Kathryn and Kevin Treese, Evan and Mia Treese, Jack Dowling and Natalie Tillet.
Linda was born on July 14, 1943, to Charles and Dorothy Cassidy. Although her father perished in World War II, she had many fond memories of a childhood spent with her extended family and many cousins on Lake Gilman in New Jersey, and traveling the country with her mother. After graduating from Glassboro High School, she attended Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pa., where she made many enduring friendships, met her husband Jeff, and played on the field hockey team. She earned a B.A. in Education.
After college, Linda and her husband Jeff remained in Huntingdon, and Linda began her career as an educator, starting the county's first Head Start program for disadvantaged children, and teaching kindergarten at the local elementary school. Her sons were born in Huntingdon, and after moving a few times, Linda and Jeff ultimately settled in Lewisburg, Pa., in 1973, where her daughter Molly was born. She was a proud resident of Lewisburg for nearly 50 years.
In Lewisburg, Linda became a successful real estate agent, and thoroughly enjoyed this career for 40+ years, primarily because of the many relationships she developed. As a proud Gold Star daughter, service was very important to Linda, and she was active in various organizations throughout her life, giving her time and leadership skills to organizations such as AAUW, Packwood House, United Way, Rotary Club, and Transitions of PA.
She also led a very active social life and enjoyed her time with friends at the Bucknell Golf Club, the ladies' Bowling League, neighborhood Bridge club, Bucknell basketball games, and anything else where her social circle took her.
More than anything, Linda was devoted to and took great pride in her family. She was seen at virtually any sporting event, concert, school event or ceremony her children were involved with. She was active in the Lewisburg School system, holding leadership positions in the Parent-Teacher organization, Booster Club, and other fund-raising organizations. Later, as her grandchildren were born, she routinely travelled all over the East coast to visit them. She was happiest during holidays and any other big event that led her family to gather at her residence in Lewisburg. She also loved spending time with her family on vacations, and particularly in Stone Harbor, New Jersey, where she rented a home every summer for her family. Linda was also an unapologetic animal lover and took great pride in her various pets and "grandpets" over the years, including adoptions of dogs and cats in need of a home.
A memorial event will be held for Linda at 1 p.m. on June 6, at the John H. Shaw III Funeral Home in Lewisburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in her name to Transitions of PA at transitionsofpa.org.
