Leona Ruth Pursel
Leona Ruth Pursel, 95, formerly of Riverside, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, Sept. 20, 2019, at Bloomsburg Care and Rehabilitation in Bloomsburg.

She was born April 12, 1924, in Watsontown, the daughter of the late Allen and Olive (Bitler) Foust. Leona was married for 72 years to James M. Pursel who preceded her in death on Nov. 16, 2014. They were married May 9, 1942.

She enjoyed being a part of the Danville High School Class of 1942.

She was a member of St. Peter's United Methodist Church in Riverside. Her memberships also included The Danville Moose.

Leona was a dedicated homemaker and took great pride in her role as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was an avid bowler and loved playing Bingo. She leaves behind many who are immensely thankful for her presence in their lives and inspired by her example.

She is survived by two sons, James A. Pursel and his wife Victoria of Riverside and Jeffrey Scott Pursel and his companion Karen Latsha of Riverside; three daughters, Carol J. Fry and her husband Ronnie of Riverside, Debra K. Wolfe and her husband Woody of Danville and Cindy L. Pursel of Riverside. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Shoemaker who passed away Sept. 8, 1995, and one great-grandson, Cody William Mordan. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Leonard Foust.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Leona's Life at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, at St. Peter's United Methodist Church, 240 Sunbury Road, Riverside, with Pastor Greg Molter officiating. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22 and again from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Monday at the church.

Burial will be held in Odd Fellows Cemetery Danville.

The family will provide flowers.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church or Alex's Lemonade Stand, 111 Presidential Blvd., Suite 203, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004.

Arrangements are under the direction of Visneski Funeral Home, Inc., 42 W. Mahoning St., Danville.
