Lee Allen Bonawitz, Sr., 82, of Selinsgrove entered into rest on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2024 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He was born on Dec. 28, 1941 in Herndon the son of the late Milford C. and Dorothy Evelyn (Hoch) Bonawitz. Lee was a 1959 graduate of Selinsgrove Area High School. He married the late Cynthia F. Bastress in 1960, and is survived by his children Lee Jr. (Linda) Bonawitz and Faye Elaine (John) Bonawitz-Carlson, grandchildren Remington and Hunter Bonawitz and Samantha Bonawitz-Carlson, later he married Judy Bogar in 1978 who preceded him in death in 2016 and is survived by his stepson Chad Bogar, and married Maryann Benfer in 2018, who survives.

In addition to his wife Maryann he is survived by his stepsons Randall (Mary) Benfer and Douglas Benfer, stepdaughter Kristine (John) Zeigler, step- grandsons Paul (Amanda) Benfer, Alex Shaffer, Aaron (Kaitlin) Shaffer, step-granddaughters Cierra Benfer, Jean (Lee) Benfer, and Tyonna Benfer, six step-great-grandchildren Peyton, Logan, Gracelyn, Kacen, Madelyn, and Hudson, many friends, and a special employee, Ron Swinehart, his trusted mechanic for over two decades.

Lee will be long remembered for his Jeep Dealership, M. C. Bonawitz & Son, on South Market Street, Selinsgrove. The same area where his grandfather Roy Bonawitz had a Ford Dealership and father sold farm equipment. After retiring he worked part-time for Zimmerman Motors and NAPA. Lee leaves many life-long friends in the Jeep racing years with the Snyder Co. Hilltoppers (President), East Coast 4WD Association (President) and Line Mountain 4WD clubs. Lee and Judy spent almost three decades raising, training, and showing dogs along with their dear friends Vicky and Jerry McCloud. Lee enjoyed traveling and going to Knoebels Amusement Resort every summer to listen to the Oldies bands. He was a member of Sharon Lutheran Church, Selinsgrove.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the V. L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High Street, Selinsgrove followed by a celebration of life service at 11 a.m. with Chaplain Felicia O'Brien officiating. Burial will be in Witmer's Memorial Cemetery, Port Trevorton.
