Kent D. "Woody" Woodruff, 57, of Helfenstein, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016, at his home.
He was born May 23, 1959, in Bloomsburg, a son of the late Elva (Leiby) and David F. Woodruff. On Sept. 19, 1981, he married the former Annette Thomas who survives. They celebrated 35 years of marriage.
Kent graduated from Southern Columbia High School and served in the Army as a SP4. He Received the Army Commendation Medal for his achievements as the Senior Track Vehicle Mechanic at Fort Polk, La.
He was employed as a truck driver for Tri-State Envelope, Ashland.
He was a member of Church of Christ in Christian Union, Mabel.
Kent enjoyed hunting, going to bear camp, cutting firewood, repairing farm equipment, and walking the "granddogs."
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Greg Woodruff and wife, Stephanie, and Chris Woodruff, and one daugher, Denise Woodruff, all of Helfenstein; one sister and brother-in-law, Cindy and Daryl Miller; one brother and sister-in-law, Myron and Becky Woodruff; brother-in-law, Peter Smulligan; nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion, Killer.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Donetta Smulligan.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. today, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, followed by the funeral at 11, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 29 High Road, Mayberry Township, Danville, with the Rev. Ray Clymer and the Rev. Martha Moll officiating.
Interment with military honors will follow in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.
The Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, Klingerstown has charge of the arrangements.
