Karen S. Renninger Obituary

Richfield - Karen S. Renninger, 57, of Richfield went home to our Lord peacefully, surrounded by all she loved, on the night of Jan. 9th after 12 long years of battling cancer.

She was born on Nov. 3, 1968, to Lester Hummel and Shirley (Byler) Hummel of New Berlin. On June 11th, 1988, she married her best friend Joel E. Renninger who preceded her in death on July 8, 2019.

Karen was a 1986 graduate of Mifflinburg Area High School and a graduate of Williamsport Area Community College where she got an associate in secretarial work.

Karen was an employee at The Daily Item, Sunbury, for 27 years doing editorial work. Prior to Daily Item, she worked at Walmart, a pet store, and her family's former restaurant.

Karen was a doting mother and wife. She always made sure her home was clean and her children were taken care of. One thing she was always insistent on was her children have new name brand shoes and straight teeth. Karen loved watching the cooking show. She would have it on almost all day where she would find recipes for her family to make and try. Most importantly, Karen's smile and laugh would light up the room. She had a dark sense of humor and would laugh and joke at the most inappropriate times. Karen loved her dog Jemma as much as she loved life. She constantly would say she can't wait to get home to her little dog.

Karen is survived by her parents;, four children Abbigail and her husband William Shaffer, Nikolaas, Casandra, and Noah; two grandchildren, Ashlynn and Greyson, and her sister Kathy and her husband Jim Diehl.

A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 am on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026, at Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill Street, Middleburg followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-4, There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens; a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance.

Dance my love, dance until we meet again!
