Judith M. Bettleyon Obituary

State College - Judith (Judy) Mae Bettleyon, 85, of State College, passed away Aug. 22, 2025, at Juniper Village at Brookline.

Judy was born June 28, 1940, in Lewisburg, Pa., to the late William S. and Helen (Leach) O'Brien. On Oct. 22, 1960, she married Donald E. Bettleyon, who proceeded her in death.

She is survived by two children, Lauri Sauers, of Bellefonte, and Karen Bettleyon (John Briggs) of State College; one grandson, Michael Sauers (Kristen) and three great-grandchildren, Addison, Gracie and Chloe of Mooresville, N.C. Judy is also survived by her loving sister Karen (James) Hafer of Lewisburg, Pa. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Bryan Bettleyon, and sister, Patricia Straub, both who left us far too soon.

Judy was a 1958 graduate of Lewisburg High School. She moved to State College in 1960 where she spent the rest of her life and raised her three children. She met many lifelong friends while she lived here and spent years playing cards or going out for Friday night dinners. Judy and Don travelled extensively after retirement with their friends and family making it to all 50 states and two countries. Despite spending 65 years here in State College she always kept in contact with her high school classmates and friends from back home in Lewisburg.

Everyone who has met Judy knows what a wonderful and kind woman she was. She wasn't just the best and most supportive mom, grandma and GG, she was also Mrs. B the "neighborhood" mom for her children's friends and put up with all of us bringing our friends to hang out in the basement, with the occasional thump on the floor if we got too rowdy. Above all, she loved spending time with family for holidays, special occasions and family reunions with her nieces and nephews, Roy, Dawn, Wendy, Patti, Michael and Matthew and their families.

Judy spent many summers watching her son and grandson play little league and teener league baseball. Recently she has enjoyed watching her great-granddaughters dance, cheer, sing and play softball. She bowled in countless leagues through the years with her mother, daughters and husband. She played Bridge and Bunco regularly with her friends, and was a member of the Red Hats.

She worked for the Prescription Shoppe, and then Riverside/BiLo for 20 plus years and those co-workers became her extended family. After her retirement, she worked at the Animal Kingdom with some close friends spreading happiness through stuffed animals, many of which found their way into her home.

Services will be at the family's convenience. Burial will be in Pine Hall Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or Centre County Paws.
