John William Shaffer, 89, of Dalmatia, passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at his daughter's home in Klingerstown, where he was cared for since June.

John was born in Dalmatia, on June 14, 1931, a son of the late Katie (Kehres) and Alvin Shaffer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor M. (Haas) Shaffer, who passed away March 21, 2009. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Benjamin "Benj" and Edward Shaffer.

He graduated from the Mahanoy Joint High School and worked as a farmer.

He was a former president of Shaffer Productions Inc.

John was a member of the PA Farm Bureau, PA Grange, and the Hickory Corners Fire Company.

His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought great joy to his life.

John is survived by three daughters, Judy A., wife of Glenn Turner, of Biltmore Lake, NC, Cindy L., wife of Douglas Wetzel, of Dalmatia, and Jean E., wife of Shannon Dietrich, of Klingerstown; one son, Alvin D, husband of Teri Shaffer, of Dalmatia; seven grandchildren, Katelyn Myers and husband Gattlin, Spenser Snyder, Logan, Riley, Katie, and Lanie Shaffer, and Haley Dietrich; great-grandson, Beckham Myers; and great-granddaughter, Raleigh Myers; a sister, Barbara, wife of Gerald Romberger; and brother, Elwood "Charlie" Shaffer; as well as nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday April 17, at Zion Stone Valley Church, Dalmatia, with the funeral service following at 11 a.m. with Pastor Curtis Zemencik and Pastor Mark Mantz officiating. Due to current health concerns masks will be required at all times within the church. Thank you for honoring the family's request.

Interment will follow in Stone Valley Cemetery.
