Lancaster - Joan "Joani" Louise Anderson Patterson, 73, of Lancaster, Pa., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born in McKeesport, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Doris Mae (Nelson) Anderson and the late David Ernest Anderson. She is survived by her husband Samuel L. Patterson with whom they shared 54 years of marriage. Joani and Sam were married in 1972 in McKeesport in her home church. Joani would go on to graduate from Penn State University with a bachelor's degree in Recreation and Parks.

Her love of music and strong faith carried through in her work for Re-Creation USA, the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival, and Homestead Village in life enrichment. As a young girl, Joani learned to play the piano and played for her home church's services and choirs. She would continue to share her talents throughout her life playing the piano in church, for choirs, at nursing homes, and in many volunteer roles.

Her greatest joy was Sam and their two daughters, Sara L. Habecker (Jeffrey) and Jill S. Garabedian (A.J.) and five grandchildren, Cooper, Alex, Chloe, Anna, and Luke. She is also survived by her dear brother, David Anderson, and many nieces and nephews and countless friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Judy Beisswenger, and her infant son, Samuel Patterson III.

A funeral service will be held at Hempfield United Methodist Church, 3050 Marietta Ave., Lancaster, Pa., 17601 on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, at 12 p.m. Friends are welcome to greet the family starting at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be private.
