Lancaster - Jeanette M. Vottero, 94, of Lancaster, Pa., died peacefully at St. Anne's Retirement Community in Columbia on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2026, with her family by her side.

Born and raised in Trevorton, Pa., Jeanette was the daughter of Louis and Josephine (DeAngelis) Vottero, and sister to Anita Gurski and Louis D. Vottero, all who predeceased her.

She is survived by her sister-in-law Barbara Vottero of St. Andrews, N.B., Canada; five nephews, Louis (Tammy) Vottero of Albuquerque, N.M., John (Lynn) Vottero of Bexley, Ohio; Brett (Jane) Vottero of Wilbraham, Mass., David (Lisa) Vottero of Columbus, Ohio, Michael (Jennifer) Gurski of Danville, Pa.; numerous grand and great grand nieces and nephews; and life-long friend and fellow teacher, Nancy Boyle of Lancaster, Pa.

Jeanette was among 16 grandchildren of Louis and Rose (Konyar) Vottero, who settled in Trevorton in the early 1900s. She was proud to be among the eldest at a 2023 family reunion attended by more than 200 descendants of three Vottero-Konyar families from Trevorton. Jeanette graduated from Trevorton High School in 1949 and East Stroudsburg State Teachers College in 1954, where she majored in health and physical education and minored in science and social studies. She had additional studies at Penn State University and the University of Maine. Jeanette devoted her career to public school students in Pennsylvania and, over 35 years, taught at Coal Township High School in Shamokin, and Lampeter-Strasburg High School and Martin Mylin Middle School in Lancaster County. A self-proclaimed "sneaker teacher" (because she was permitted to wear sneakers to work), she also coached basketball, field hockey, and cheerleading.

Her teaching career afforded her several sabbaticals, which were devoted to bird watching and world travel, including to many European countries, South America, Canada, Alaska, and a great deal of the lower 48 of the United States. Machu Picchu, Peru; Iguassu Falls, Argentina; and Churchill, Manitoba, Canada were some of her highlights.

Jeanette was a communicant of St. Patrick Church in Trevorton and Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Lancaster. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Retired Teachers Association, the Lancaster Bird Club, and the Kate Smith Commemorative Society.

Before her own move to St. Anne's Retirement Community in January 2025, Jeanette was a longtime sustainer and volunteer for St. Anne's. Her family is deeply appreciative of the care and support provided by St. Anne's to Jeanette and all the residents.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026, at St. Patrick Church in Trevorton, Pa., with interment to follow. Arrangements have been entrusted to Foust Funeral Home, LLC.
