Jane L. Baker Obituary

Jane L. Baker entered her heavenly home Thursday, Aug. 15, 2024.

She was born Dec. 11, 1931, in Shamokin, to James C. Ney (founder of the Bible Depot and Oaklyn Community Fellowship Church of Sunbury), and Iva R. Yoder.

Jane graduated from Sunbury High School in 1949 and from Geisinger School of Nursing in 1952. She later earned her bachelor of science degree in nursing at Bloomsburg University.

She married Thomas E. Baker on Aug. 7, 1952, a union of 56 years before his passing.

Her nursing career included working at Sunbury Community Hospital (obstetrics), SUN Home Health, the VA Hospital in Vermont, and Geisinger Medical Center.

She is survived by two daughters, Diane Messner and Debra Seibert (Douglas); two brothers, Jack Ney and Daniel Ney (Beth); one sister, Marian Ocker; and one sister-in-law, Nancy Ney; four grandchildren, James T. Messner (Jennifer), Heather Zimmerman (Duane), Curtis Seibert (Krystal) and Shelly Seibert; seven great-grandchildren, Peyton Seibert, Wyatt Messner, Abigail Messner, Alexandra Seibert, Arianna Seibert, Kyrie Seibert and Lydian Zimmerman.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Baker in 2008 (founder of Bible Truth Mission, India Bible Truth Mission, and Bible Truth Institute); brothers, Richard Ney, James Ney Jr., David Ney; and son-in-law, James R. Messner.

A viewing will be held from noon to 1 p.m., Monday, Aug. 19, followed by the funeral at 1 at the David Zweier Funeral Home, 157 Chestnut St., Sunbury, PA 17801 with Pastor George Solley of Grampian, Pa., officiating.

Special thanks to the Emanuel Home, Northumberland for going above and beyond in caring for Jane, and Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg for loving care with dignity and respect.

Jane was a gifted pianist, organist, and artist. She was known for her needlework which earned her several first and second place ribbons at the Bloomsburg Fair as well as her oil paintings.

She accepted the Lord as her personal savior at an early age. As a teen she provided music for her father's radio broadcast "Start the Day the Happy Way with Paul & Jim," a daily devotional.

In the 1960s, Jane continued her musical talents by playing for her husband's radio ministry "Open My Eyes That I May See."

She ministered alongside her husband as he pastored in Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, and Florida as well as conducting VBS, teaching Sunday School and heading up lady's church ministries for missionaries.

After retiring from her nursing career Jane taught at Bible Truth Institute, Sunbury and was Dean of Women for future pastor's wives and Christian workers.
