Northumberland - James F. Packer, 77, of Point Township Drive, Northumberland, passed away July 26, 2025, at Geisinger Medical Center.

James was born Dec. 30, 1947, in Sunbury, a son of the late James T. and Lois A. (Phillips) Packer. On Dec. 24, 1982, he married Joanne Palermo.

He proudly served in the United States Army for 26 years, obtaining the rank of Sergeant before retiring. He also worked as a secretary consultant in Binghamton, New York, for 22 years.

James was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Danville. He was a very active member of the church, he joined the Knights of Columbus, he served as a greeter, was in the prayer group and helped provide security for the church.

He was an outdoorsman, loved sports, especially the Philadelphia Phillies and Bucknell basketball.

In addition to his loving wife of 42.5 years, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Scott J. and Jennifer Packer.

He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Nickie Jeavons.

A viewing will be held Friday, August 1, from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 68 Center Street, Danville, followed by a Knights of Columbus memorial service and then the Mass of Christian Burial with Father Kenneth Roth as celebrant.

Interment will be in Orchard Hills Cemetery, Shamokin Dam.
