Irene G. Sweigart Obituary

Irene G. Sweigart, 74, of Beavertown, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2024, at the Gatehouse at Divine Providence Hospital, Williamsport.


She was born Nov. 8, 1949, in Lewistown, a daughter of the late Lee R. and Rita G. (Mattern) Bailey. On Nov. 16, 1974, she married Samuel R. Sweigart who survives.


Irene was a 1968 graduate of West Snyder High School.


She worked at Kinney Shoes in Beaver Springs, Best Mart in Beavertown, and Saylor's Market in Beaver Springs.


Irene enjoyed playing Bingo, shooting bow with her husband Sam, and playing games with her grandchildren. She was known as a jack of all trades and would do anything to help someone.


Surviving in addition to her husband Sam of 49 years are two sons, James (Donna) Sweigart and Carl Sweigart and his girlfriend Stacy Blankenship; five grandchildren, Allen, Alex, Kelsey, Darren, and Bailey Sweigart; one great-grandchild, Alakay; one sister, Cindy Bailey and her companion Jeff Gill; sister-in-law, Terri Bailey; numerous nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by one brother, Allen "Beetle" Bailey, and one sister, Violet Bailey.


A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.


In lieu of flowers, contributions to honor Irene's memory may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 E. 33rd St., New York, NY 10016-5337.


Arrangements are by the Kreamer Funeral Home, 130 S. Zechman St., Beavertown.
