Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania - Howard O. Dean, 98, of Selinsgrove, entered into rest on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at Brookdale Grayson View, Selinsgrove.

He was the husband of the late Olga (Sablar) Dean, who preceded him in death on Feb. 16, 2005.

Howard was born on April 10, 1928, in Portersville, Butler County. He was the son of the late John Gale and Lillian Mae (Leise) Dean.

In his earlier years, he worked at Elwood City Forge until he joined the United States Army in 1950. Howard served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He later retired from ABF Freight System.

Howard was a man of deep faith, a true patriot and a friend to all. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and served as vice president of the 5th Cavalry Regiment Veterans.

Howard was known for his beautiful harmonica playing, his baritone singing voice, his excellent memory for songs, writing poetry and telling fantastic life stories.

Howard is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Madolane "Maddi" and Dr. Daniel Zydowicz; two grandchildren, Mark Alan Zydowicz and Dr. Sara Helena Zydowicz; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles "Chuck" and Patricia "Pat" Dean; a sister Alice Schuller; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, from 10 to 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 115 S. 4th St., Sunbury, followed by the funeral service at 11 with Pastor David Dressler officiating.

Following the service, a luncheon will be provided. Burial with full military honors will be private in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in loving memory of Howard to First Baptist Church or to Brookdale Grayson View, 29 Grayson View Court, Selinsgrove, PA 17870, or the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, KS 6675, or to a charity of the donor's choosing.
