New Columbia, Pennsylvania - Harry "Jim" J.W. Swinehart, 81, of New Columbia, passed away peacefully on May 2 in Milton. Born on May 12, 1944, Jim lived a life defined by hard work, kindness and dedication to his family and community.


A graduate of Milton schools, Jim spent most of his career working for Shippers Car Line as a railcar repairman, where he was known for his strong work ethic and craftsmanship. He had a lifelong talent for building and fixing things, enjoyed doing odd jobs and loved spending time outdoors.


Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Janet, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage; his sister, Barb; his daughter, Barb; his grandson, Brody; his granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; and his loyal dog, Finley.


A small service will be held at John H. Shaw III Funeral Home in Lewisburg on Saturday, June 6, at 11 a.m.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jim's name to cancer research through the American Cancer Society.


Jim will be remembered for his quiet strength, practical wisdom and the love he showed through the work of his hands and the care he gave to those around him.
