Grant A. Kratzer
Grant A. Kratzer, 88, of Selinsgrove, entered into eternal rest on Oct. 14, 2019, at his home surrounded by his children. God took him by the hand and led him home into the arms of his beloved wife Dolly, who preceded him in death on Sept. 28, 2018.
He was born Dec. 19, 1930, in Selinsgrove (Monroe Township), a son of the late Irvin L. and Carrie J. (Smith) Kratzer. Grant married the former Dolly C. Snyder on Jan. 5, 1952. They were married for 66 years.

Grant attended school in the Selinsgrove area. In his earlier years, Grant farmed his 70 acre farmette located near the Camelback Bridge, Selinsgrove, which was his father's homestead and is currently Heimbach's Country Store. For a combined 32 years, Grant worked for Pennsylvania Railroad, Penn Central RR, and Conrail RR in Enola. He retired in 1985.

Grant was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Selinsgrove. He was an active person belonging to various organizations and enjoyed spending time with friends at the Selinsgrove Moose Lodge 1173, and was a life member of the Kratzerville Volunteer Fire Company, Hummel's Wharf Fire Company, DH&L Fire Company, Eagles Lodge and Elks Lodge, Sunbury.

Grant had energy and determination beyond measure. He liked his bowl of ice cream and lived by the Golden Rule. He organized numerous pig roasts, chicken and beef roasts benefiting the Selinsgrove's Midget Football organization. He enjoyed butchering and was well known for his renowned scrapple, sausage, country cured bacon and hams. He and Dolly liked attending Penn State football games, NASCAR races, cruises, family beach outings and Las Vegas trips. He spent his retirement years and spare time in the Amish community, hauling them to produce auctions and appointments.

Being a proud father, you could always hear him boasting "I have six girls and they all have a brother". Grant is survived by six daughters and one son, Sharon (Kratzer) Saylor and son-in-law Douglas Saylor of Beavertown, Linda (Kratzer) Dreese and son-in-law Bradley "Skip" Dreese of Selinsgrove, Pamela (Kratzer) Gemberling and son-in-law Max Gemberling of Selinsgrove, Kathy (Kratzer) Maneval and son-in-law Mark Maneval of Freeburg, Mary (Kratzer) D'Angelo of Pennsville, N.J., Brenda (Kratzer) Bickhart and son-in-law Scott Bickhart of Pennsville, N.J., and son, Keith Kratzer and daughter-in-law Olga Smith of Selinsgrove; 12 grandchildren, Angela (Saylor) Franquet, Dustin and Brett Dreese, Brooke (Gemberling) Manley, Laura (Gemberling) Fetterman, Jared Kratzer, Tyler and Cory Maneval, Dominic and Marisa D'Angelo, Kyle and Dylan Bickhart, step grandchildren: Stacey and Michele Gemberling; and 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Richard, wife May, Carson, wife Floretta, and sister-in-law, Anna Kratzer, all of Selinsgrove; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Death is always an enemy no matter when or how. Rhoades family hearts feel your sorrow and pain remembering the years our families shared growing up. My what a huge family you share now! I remember the years your dad would butcher and our parents would get many items you listed. Years we worked picking in fields. Babysitting Sharon and Linda did so our parents could have a night out. So long ago it was. Many more memories to numerous to write. Pam was in my class, Keith was in Barbara's class. Don't know who was in Beth's. God promises to bring death to an end in the near future and resurrect those who have died. I hope you will be there and welcome your parents back as we will ours also. Fo...rever family.Read more
