Middleburg - Gerald D. Kratzer, 85, of rural Middleburg, passed away on Wednesday, April 23, at WellSpan Evangelical Community Hospital in Lewisburg.

He was born Dec. 24, 1939, in western Snyder County, a son of the late John A. and Bertha (Romig) Kratzer. On Dec. 15, 1968, he married the former Arla Hackenberg, who survives.

Gerald's employment history included Yorktowne, Norman Hackenberg's Garage, Kratzer Motors and the Snyder County Prison. For many years, he owned and operated the Gerald D. Kratzer Carpentry and Concrete Business.

He attended Grace Covenant Church, Middleburg.

Gerald enjoyed hunting, particularly rabbits with his beagles, riding motorcycles and working at carpentry, masonry and mechanical work.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 56 years is a son, Troy Kratzer.

He was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters, Roy, John, Floyd, Gordon and Herman Kratzer and Edna Shawver, Erma Musser, June Hood, Ruth Troxell, and three siblings in infancy.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, April 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Zion Fellowship Church, 1366 Zion Road, Middleburg, where the funeral will be conducted on Monday, April 28, at 11 a.m. with his nephew, Rev. Donald Doebler Jr., officiating. Burial will follow in the Zion Church Cemetery.
