Parkton, MD - George Somis, 58, died after a long battle with a debilitating illness on February 5, 2025.

Born on January 29, 1967, in London, Ontario, he was the son of Konstantinos and Kalliopi (Popi) Somis. After moving to Lewisburg in 1972, George made many life-long friends, with whom he remained close until his passing. He counted his friends made throughout his life as his extended family and was always happy to spend time catching up and sharing experiences.

George's career took him to many cities on the East Coast including New York, Boston, and Providence. Before moving to Parkton, Maryland to stay with his brother's family, George lived in Putney, Vermont amid the forests and mountains he enjoyed exploring. But his real love was travelling and experiencing different cultures. In addition to several cross-country trips with friends and visits to National Parks, George spent extended time travelling to Greece, India, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Germany, England, Ireland, Spain, Costa Rica, Mexico, Caribbean Islands, and Canada. George also spent time studying primitive survival skills such as creating tools and shelter, foraging and harvesting native foods, tracking, and fire-making.

Among his many interests, George loved sharing his enthusiasm for nature, music, food, yoga, philosophy, and spiritualism. He was a wonderful listener and storyteller, amusingly stubborn beyond compare, invested in his beliefs and values. It was his mission in life to be a seeker and a scout. He will be greatly missed and his contributions to friends and family are irreplaceable. George was one of a kind.

George is survived by his only sibling, Aristedes Somis and sister-in-law Julie of Parkton, Maryland; niece Kalliopi Somis of Pasadena, CA; and cousins Cynthia Gessler of Lancaster, and Bessie Somis of Brampton, Ontario. He is preceded in death by his parents and uncle, George Somis of Lewisburg; aunt, Georgina Fokas, and cousin Rev. Aristides Fokas both of Lancaster.

A Celebration of Life for family and close friends will be held at River Mountain Retreat in Everett, PA June 13th-15th.
