Gary L. Shafer

Gary L. Shafer, 70, of Ephrata, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017, at his home.
He was born in Port Trevorton, a son of the late Murray and Nina (Reinard) Shafer. He was married to the former Nancy S. Snyder who survives, and they shared 32 years of marriage.
Gary was a sales manager for Sunline Coach Co., Denver.
He valued spending time with his grandchildren.
Gary's interests included hunting, fishing and special edition cars, especially corvettes.
In addition to his wife, Gary is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Beth and Matthew Hildenbrand and Charlyn Renee and Harold Trimble, all of Ephrata; six grandsons; three great-grandchildren; and five siblings and their spouses, Connie and John Graybill, of Port Trevorton, Edward and Susan (Reinard) Shafer, of Denver, Virginia and James Woolson, of Ephrata, Richard and Carolyn (Kratzer) Shafer, of Port Trevorton, William and Phyllis (Messinger) Shafer, of Port Trevorton.
By Gary's request, services will be private.
Arrangements are by the Stradling Funeral Homes Inc., Akron/Ephrata.

Plant a tree: How does it work
When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.
An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.
After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.
Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.

January - May
Planting will take place in Spring or Summer of the same year.
June - December
Planting will take place in Spring of the following year.
