Gary W. Hendricks Obituary

Gary W. Hendricks, 71, of 3580 Upper Road, Shamokin, passed away Sunday, Jan. 3, 2020, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, as a result of COVID-19.


Born in Norristown on March 6, 1949, he was the son of the late William and Norma (Orth) Hendricks.


He graduated Ashland High School in 1967. Gary served in the United States Army from 1967-1969 in Vietnam as an intelligence analyst and received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with four bronze service stars, and republic of Vietnam Campaign.


On April 24, 1971, in Tucson, Arizona, he married Diane Collier, who survives. He worked for 20 years at the ASARCO copper mine before relocating to Pennsylvania with his family. He was a member at First Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon. An avid model railroader, bowler, and history buff for many years, he was a quiet and gentle man who loved his wife and family above all else. He was a true romantic.


In addition to his wife, Gary is survived by two daughters, Hannah Lewis and Beverly Hendricks, both of Shamokin; two grandsons, Charles Hendricks and Tristan Hendricks; two granddaughters, Allyssa Stark and Megan Lewis; a great-grandson, Koda Olds; a great-granddaughter, Layla Olds; two sisters, Rebekah Hendricks and Rachel Hendricks; a brother-in-law, Jim Collier and his wife Carol; four sisters-in-law, Dale Gustitus and her husband Frank, Darlene Hill and her husband Richard, Deborah Seifried and her husband Thomas, and Denise Collier; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.


In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Joseph Calvin Collier; and father and mother-in-law, Hilbert and Wilma (Long) Collier.


A viewing will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 22 at Farrow-C.J. Lucas Funeral and Cremation Service, 240 W. Chestnut St., Shamokin, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Kellett officiating.


Burial will be follow in St. Paul's Cemetery, Gowen City.
